Make pixel art in BeforePixel's browser canvas
Draw sprites with layers, palettes, mirror drawing and real blur in BeforePixel. Save an editable browser project or export PNG; Creative adds animation.
Updated October 3, 2026.
The website edition
BeforePixel is our pixel-art app. The website edition puts a lighter canvas in your browser. Its current drawing, saving and export features are described here; development features from the fuller app are not promises about this edition.
Sign in with an eligible plan and open BeforePixel from Apps. Essential includes the still-art studio. Creative adds the frame timeline, onion skin, playback, sprite sheets and animated GIF export.
Build a sprite with layers
Choose a small canvas, add a background layer and keep your subject on a separate layer. Use pencil, fill, shapes and selection to edit. Mirror drawing helps with symmetric sprites; tile preview helps check repeating artwork.
Palette edits are part of undo history. The blur brush blends neighboring pixels instead of snapping its output back to the visible swatches. Work at the original pixel size when checking edges.
Save the editable master
Save a .beforepixel project to retain the palette, layers and frame timing. Keep a copy outside browser storage. Browser recovery helps after an interrupted session, but clearing site data can remove that recovery copy.
PNG import and export run in your browser. Your canvas document is not saved to a Galactrex cloud document service by this edition.
Export for the job
Use PNG for a still frame. With animation access, check each frame's duration, preview the sequence, then export a sprite sheet or GIF. A GIF has palette and transparency limits, so inspect the exported result before delivery.
The hosted browser-to-agent connection is not currently a public service. For a released local MCP workflow on Windows, use BeforeEdit's companion and its setup guide.
