Start from the finished file

Export the master you would upload: WAV, AIFF or FLAC give exact peaks, and MP3, AAC, OGG or Opus work too. Open Aftermix, sign in, drop the file in, pick the genre and where it is going: streaming, club, TV or CD.

The song is decoded and measured on your device. Only the measurements are sent to get the verdict. A Galactrex account includes one free check a day.

How loud should it be for streaming?

Streaming services turn songs to a common loudness. Spotify plays tracks at about -14 LUFS by default, and Apple Music, YouTube and Tidal do something similar with their own targets. A louder master is turned down; a quieter one may be turned up, or left quieter.

Aftermix shows each platform in plain words: fine, or quieter than the songs around it. A loud master is a style choice, not a mistake. The integrated LUFS and true-peak numbers are in the Advanced tab when you want them.

Check what will distort

True peak measures the peaks between samples that a converter or a lossy encode can push over 0 dB. Aftermix reports true peak, clipped runs and where in the song they happen, so you can find the moment instead of guessing.

If a lossy platform may add distortion to the loudest moments, it says which ones. Most listeners will not hear a small overshoot; a long clipped run is worth fixing.

Tone, low end and mono

The tone check compares the balance across the spectrum with songs of the genre you picked. Add a released reference song you want yours to sound like, and the comparison is made against it instead.

Low end, harsh esses and stereo width get their own checks, along with what is lost when the song plays in mono on a phone speaker or a club system.

Hear the fix, then check the next version

Every finding comes with a fix and a preview of the song with it applied, so you decide by ear before you touch the session. Make the change in your own mix, export again and check the new version: Aftermix shows what changed since the last one.
